VAREY began as an architectural practice in London, England, and is now based in Toronto. As the practice has evolved across the UK and Canada, the approach has remained consistent—a considered act of making, guided by a material honesty that values warmth, texture, and the contemporary refinement of traditional forms.

The office is led by Co-Founders Nick Varey, an Architect dual-licensed with the OAA (CA) and ARB (UK), and Stephanie Varey, Head of Operations. Together, they combine a decade of London practice with a technical groundedness in the Toronto landscape—bringing international experience in complex residential builds to the particularities of the Ontario climate and landscape.

We make architecture that responds to how people live. A home should support daily routines, create moments of calm, and offer a sense of comfort. Our work focuses on the subtler qualities of a space: how light moves through it, how rooms relate, and how the architecture holds the life unfolding within.

By paying close attention to material, proportion, and detail, we bring the demands of a home together with a measured precision that offers a sense of ease. Every project is a collaboration. We work closely with clients to see the true potential in their home, forming spaces that are considered, comfortable, and lasting.

Working With Us

We work with clients on new homes, extensions, and the careful reworking of existing spaces — from large renovations to focused interior redesigns. Each project begins with a close understanding of how a home is lived in, and how architecture can better support everyday life.

Our role spans the entirety of the process: from initial spatial studies and design development through to permissions and permitting. This is supported by a comprehensive package of technical drawings and the coordination of specialist consultants. We also lead the tendering and selection of the contractor to ensure the right workmanship is in place for the build.

During construction, we remain closely involved on site, helping guide the process and ensuring the design intent is carried through with precision. This approach ensures that the clarity of the initial design is maintained through to the physical details of the finished home.
